来到GMercyU
茱莉亚•贝茨 graduated from Pennsbury High School in 2021. She originally heard about GMercyU through her great aunt, who received her master’s degree at the University.
After the meeting, Julia and her mom researched private institutions and found GMercyU.
“我找到了格温内斯仁慈大学, but had never really heard anything about the institution, 所以我很想了解更多. I applied to three schools and in a manner of two weeks, GMercyU was the first that reached out to me, . “My selling point was threefold: scholarship pack年龄s, 校园本身, and the 教师学徒计划(TAP).”
Julia earned a Presidential Scholarship, 在面试过程中, 水管工来了, leaving Julia to explain the situation to the committee.
I felt like I had blown the interview, but when I came back on, Dr. 美国说, “我只想说, from a special education standpoint, the way you handled that entire situation was perfect,’”茱莉亚说。. “I then continued with the interview process.
While the scholarship played a role in Julia’s decision, she ultimately chose GMercyU because she fell in love with campus. Her first exposure to GMercyU’s campus was in March 2021.
As I stepped onto campus, I immediately fell in love with it. The staff was so welcoming and friendly, and I felt like I was seen as a student, which is rare on big college campuses, I could comfortably navigate my way around campus,
After officially becoming a Griffin, Julia received a detailed letter about her major, Early Childhood Education and Special Education, and the 教师学徒计划(TAP). The letter highlighted the benefits of TAP,
Julia’s teachers have had both a positive and negative affect on her.
“Though very knowledgeable and personable, my 第四-grade teacher could not recognize my needs as a student. This caused me to have some academic and personal issues during the school year, only to find out that I needed more movement and stimulation throughout my day,”茱莉亚说。. “I remember being very bored in school and refusing to do my homework. However, nothing was done for me after discovering the source of my issues. When reflecting on this experience,
Experience in the School of Education
Julia has loved every minute of her time in the program so far. Even though she isn’t working directly in the field yet,
While Julia loves all of her professors at GMercyU, Professor Marianne Boyd is one that sticks out the most.
“Professor Marianne Boyd has not only been a professor, 也是我的学术顾问, the club advisor for Education Outreach, 倾听的耳朵, and a mentor whom I look up to as my guide for how I want to be as a teacher.
Julia has not completed her pre-student teaching or student teaching, TAP. She’s worked and gain experience with different 年龄s, 能力, and educational locations through this program.
During the fall of her sophomore year,
"My biggest takeaway is that through these experiences, 我知道了我最能与哪个年龄段的学生产生共鸣——高年级学生(大约三年级到六年级). After my first day observing at MaST III, 我喜欢学生的年龄, how they were both independent and dependent at the same time. . “到目前为止,没有任何其他经历能像我在四年级课堂上那样积极投入, which made me fall in love with that 年龄 group.”
I made it my goal on campus to become highly involved on campus because I am a commuter, and I don’t have the ‘typical’ college experience that many others my 年龄 have.
Julia is President of Education Outreach,
Education Outreach has done several service projects, including the adoption of families from the Breathing Room Foundation for the holidays, running a book drive for a Philadelphia school without access to a library,
另外, 该组织举办专业发展活动,主题包括心理健康/健康教学, 大流行期间的教学, and a discussion on race and diversity in education. Education Outreach also hosted a GMercyU teaching panel,
Julia is the Vice President for Best Buddies,
Julia is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, an honor society recognizing student success within the first year of college. She served as Board Secretary during her sophomore year, but ultimately stepped down to continue her involvement in other clubs.
In addition, Julia is a student within the 荣誉项目 run by Dr. 帕特里克·墨西拿, and is a tutor in the 学生 Success Center where she helps her peers in match,
Julia’s dream job after graduating is to work as an elementary school teacher in third, She’s also considering surrounding districts,
“I found my love for teaching mathematics by being a tutor at GMercyU. I have thought that when I return to get my master’s degree, . “My tutees can attest that I like teaching mathematics, which is ironic because I detested it in elementary school. But ever since I became a tutor and helped my friends in their math courses, I knew that I wanted to become a secondary education teacher, which is my next goal after graduation.”
